Pre-Raphaelite painter John William Waterhouse depicted the death and martyrdom of Saint Eulalia of Mérida (West of Spain) in the 4th century. The story of this saint was probably brought to Barcelona shortly after by its bishop, starting the devotion to Eulalia of Barcelona.
